El Capitan Canyon, California Accommodation

IMG_2559

We stayed in some pretty unique places on our California Road Trip, but I would have to say El Capital Canyon was a pretty special place! This campground resort offers all types of accommodation options – from tents to cabins to luxury yurts – you are sure to find something that suits your style. Located just outside of Santa Barbra, we found this site a great place to break up the drive from San Francisco back to Santa Monica.

Santa Barbara PM, California

IMG_1678

Our perfect Santa Barbara morning turned into an even lovelier afternoon! The sun was out and we took full advantage. We explored the oceanfront as well as entering into the Funk Zone for a bit of wine tasting in the urban wine trail. From there we headed to the Santa Barbara Mission and finished the day at The Lucky Penny – fitting since we seemed pretty darn lucky with our day in SB!

Santa Barbara AM , California

IMG_1643

After a jam packed Friday spent in Santa Monica, including an evening hike up Runyon Canyon to see a foggy Hollywood Sign, we sipped some coffee and ate a big America breakfast then hit the road to Santa Barbara. After doing a bit of research I realized that we were going to catch the Saturday local farmers market located right off State Street. Lucky us! Post farmers market stroll we walked around town, taking in the sights and stopping along the way to discover what was around.

Santa Monica, California

IMG_1449

About 4 months ago – when I was still in the planning process of my trip back home to America – we decided to organize a sibling roadtrip. The three of us had never explored California and it seemed like the best opportunity to spend time together and see new places!

Santa Monica was the perfect place to start our 7 day California adventure. After arriving into LAX, around 8PM,  we headed straight to In and Out Burger (something my brother had been dreaming about for days!) and then onto my best friend from childhood’s house to stay the night. The next day was filled with Southern California sunshine, sandy beaches, bright colors, and exciting times. We rode the West Coaster, ate salsa and tacos, and explored Santa Monica by foot!

kennebunkport + porpoise cove

IMG_0123

I am in love with Kennebunkport, Maine… summer flowers, painted buildings, quaint shops and lobster pounds… a stunning coastal Maine spot. We spent a quick afternoon strolling the main street and popping into little shops and pretty buildings. From Kennybunkport we headed to Porpoise Cove, a short 5 minute drive outside of town for lobster and onion rings on the dock!

New York City – Day One

IMG_0866

Three days in New York and boy did we cover some ground – from Central Park to the Chelsea Market and even the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building we saw a ton in a short period of time. Day one consisted of walking mid-town to Union Square and back, along with shopping and a nice lunch in the Flatiron District and dinner in the Lower East Side. That evening we walked around Times Square and even made a visit to M&M world. Needless to say we crashed that evening!

A New England Roadtrip

IMG_9973

One month later and my USA trip is coming to a close – only one week left! To describe the trip as anything less than an epic whirlwind of adventure, action, and family love would be a crime…. what a time it has been! A few weeks ago my mom, dad, and I hit the road in a small rental car and headed up North for a 5 day quick trip to Maine. From Virginia to Maine the scenery was perfection and I definitely plan to go back again with more time on my side.

Exploring Dunedin

IMG_8667

I have now been to Dunedin a handful of times and every time I discover more and more goodness! I LOVE Dunedin – and I think this is because it gives me a glimpse back into true city life – stoplights, tall(ish) buildings, lots of people walking around …it’s perfect for a weekend away before heading back to Queenstown.

Nugget Point, The Catlins

IMG_8649

Located at the northern end of the Catlins Coast just down the road from the tiny town of Kaka Point sits Nugget Point.  This steep headland has a lighthouse at its tip and is surrounded by rocky islet, known as ‘the nuggets’. The lighthouse was built in 1869 and started operating on 4 July 1870.  The tower was constructed from locally quarried stone and stands 249 ft above the water.

Hurunui Jacks Glamping

IMG_7409

Hurunui Jacks really can’t be explained, it must be experienced… out of this world. After spending the day road tripping to Hokitika we ended our journey at Maureen and John’s little slice of heaven off the beaten path. The notion of ‘glamping’ has really taken off over the course of the last year or so, and after spending so many nights in back country huts with nothing but a sleeping bag and your head torch, I was ready to upgrade for an evening and give glamping a try! After taking off our shoes and putting on some gum boots, we headed down the remote path to the tent down by the creek and spend the evening reading by lantern light, relaxing and listening to the sound of the rushing water.
